Honolulu – We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants and supporters of the Pacific Rim Cup 2024 Powered by Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting, held on July 26 and 27 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. This year’s event was a huge success, with over 100 keiki participating in the sold-out clinic for the fifth consecutive time, and the inaugural keiki tournament launching successfully.

 

Blue United Corporation, having previously organized the Pacific Rim Cup in 2018 and 2019, faced challenges due to the global pandemic in 2020, pausing the professional games since then. However, the Keiki Soccer Clinic–which was one of several components of the Pacific Rim Cup–was revived in 2022 and generated nearly 700 applications in just 48 hours, showcasing its popularity. The 2023 fee-based clinic was also a sold out with over 300 participants, reinforcing the event’s significance to Hawaii.

 

As we continue to work on bringing back the professional games, our focus has been on strengthening our bond with Hawaii's vibrant soccer community and eager children by hosting the Keiki Soccer Clinic and the new Keiki Soccer Tournament. Preparations began five months ago with the establishment of an organizing committee. Members from New York, Hawaii, Argentina, and Japan collaborated through discussions, overcoming time zones, language barriers, and cultural differences to ensure a seamless execution.

 

This year's special coaches included former Japan national team player Takuya Yamada; David “Bingy” Lara, Head of Academy Recruitment for Seattle Sounders FC (MLS); and former professional players from Hawaii, Kenji Treschuk and Shandon Hopeau. Participants not only received exclusive T-shirts but also had the chance to receive autographs, take photos with the special coaches, and receive valuable advice, creating invaluable opportunities for international interaction.

 

In collaboration with Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC, a research project was conducted to highlight the social value of sports, aiming to substantiate our unique values. Continuing last year’s effort, we surveyed the parents of participants and volunteer staff to understand the social value the event brings to Hawaii–a place with high community values.
